Start with the damage

Look beyond
the dent.

A scraped bumper and a hard rear impact call for different repair plans. We look at what was hit, how the truck behaves and what the manufacturer’s procedures require before recommending the work.

Front-end damage

Bumpers, grilles, hoods and fenders need more than a cosmetic check. We assess mounting points and, where affected, cooling components, lamps, wiring and sensor equipment.

Can a bumper be repaired when sensors are involved?

Sometimes, but damage near a sensor can change the decision. Mopar limits repairs and paint thickness in certain sensor areas and does not allow repairs to parking sensors or their attachment brackets. We check the equipment and procedure for your RAM before recommending repair or replacement.

Doors, beds & tailgates

We inspect door fit, fenders, bedsides, bed floors and tailgate hardware. Paint matching includes evaluating the existing finish, preparing the surface and planning any needed blending.

Can a damaged RAM bedside or tailgate be repaired?

Often, depending on the damage and the applicable repair procedure. We check creases, stretched or torn metal, seams, hinges and latches. Damage to an outer bedside does not automatically mean replacing the complete bed. A camera-equipped or multifunction tailgate also needs its hardware, wiring and operation checked.

Why paint a panel that was not damaged?

Blending carries the new color into an adjoining area to make the transition less noticeable. The paint code is a starting point; the existing finish and available blend area matter too. We explain which panels need refinishing and why.

Structure & drivability

After a significant impact, the plan may include structural measurement and checks of steering, suspension, wheel alignment and accident-related mechanical damage.

Can hidden rear-impact damage affect towing?

Yes. A hit can damage the hitch receiver, its attachments, the frame, bed mounts, wiring or suspension. Tell us if a trailer was attached or the hitch took the impact. Have the affected towing equipment and structure inspected before towing again; appearance alone cannot establish that they are ready.

Does my RAM need scans or calibration if no warning light is on?

A clear dashboard does not replace a diagnostic scan. Mopar calls for wiTECH scans before and after collision repair, including damage that appears minor. A scan reads faults; calibration sets a system’s aim or reference. Calibration depends on your RAM’s equipment and the work performed—not every sensor has the same procedure.

We review affected cameras, radar, parking sensors and mounting points, plus any glass or alignment work, against the vehicle’s repair information. Required calibrations and unresolved faults belong in the repair plan.

How scanning & calibration fit the repair ↗
  • Identify the vehicle: VIN, model year, options and any modifications.
  • Follow current repair information: materials, joining methods, measurements and system-specific requirements.
  • Plan the required checks: manufacturer-directed pre- and post-repair scanning, calibration and relevant final inspections.

Certification requirements include technician training, welding capability, structural measuring equipment and access to OEM repair information. Mopar collision resources ↗

A clear plan, before you commit

Know what the
estimate covers.

  1. Start with a free visual estimate

Bring your RAM and any insurance estimate. We review visible damage and discuss the next step. A preliminary visual estimate is not a complete damage diagnosis.

  2. Authorize the deeper inspection

Diagnostic work, scanning, measurements and disassembly can carry separate charges. We explain the proposed work and obtain authorization before proceeding.

  3. Why did the estimate change after bumper removal?

The first estimate covers damage identifiable at that stage. Authorized disassembly can reveal a damaged absorber, bracket, wiring or other accident-related damage. A supplement documents the added repairs and required operations with supporting evidence. We coordinate insurer review and explain approvals, any disputed items and customer costs before additional authorized work proceeds.

How do modifications affect the repair plan?

Brush guards, lifts, oversized tires, bumpers, winches and racks can affect access, fit, alignment and sensor positioning. Tell us what was installed and share part or installation records. We check related damage and applicable setup requirements. Accessory coverage depends on the policy; replacement upgrades are a separate conversation.

A van-specific repair plan

Sliding door or side-panel damage?

Call with the VIN, roof height, wheelbase and any shelving, liftgate or other upfit so we can confirm the repair scope and access before arrival. A ProMaster’s unitized body needs a van-specific plan. A door that no longer closes correctly needs its hardware and surrounding opening inspected; replacing the outer panel alone may not resolve the problem.

We confirm the appropriate location, equipment and any applicable program coverage for your configuration.

Downtime needs an explanation.

Give us a fleet contact, authorization requirements and vehicle priorities. We coordinate estimates and repair sequencing around the confirmed scope, parts and approvals. If the vehicle is safe to operate, we can discuss scheduling it around parts arrival; an unsafe truck or van needs a different plan.

RAM collision repair FAQ

Straight answers.
A clearer next step.

Questions about cost, downtime or what the accident changed? These answers explain what we can tell you now and what needs an inspection of your RAM.

How much does RAM bumper, bedside or tailgate repair cost?

There is no reliable flat price without inspecting the damage. Repair versus replacement, paint work, sensor equipment, mounting damage and parts selection can change the total. Two dents that look similar in photos can need different work. Universal offers a free preliminary visual estimate, with diagnostic testing or disassembly priced and authorized separately. See how the estimate develops.

How long will my RAM collision repairs take?

We give a more useful schedule once we know the repair scope, parts availability and approvals. Body and paint work, any mechanical repairs, scans, calibration and final checks all affect the completion date. A drop-off date is not a guaranteed finish date. For a work truck or ProMaster, tell us your deadline and replacement-vehicle needs early so we can discuss practical options.

Can I drive my RAM after an accident?

A truck that starts and moves may still need towing. Stop driving if steering or braking changes, a tire rubs, fluid leaks, a panel is loose or restraints have deployed. New warning lights also need assessment. Call us before moving the vehicle so we can discuss inspection and towing. Avoid towing a trailer until impact-related hitch and structural concerns have been checked.

Is my RAM totaled if the frame is bent or airbags deployed?

Those findings do not settle the question by themselves. The full damage assessment, permitted repair procedures, repair cost, vehicle value and applicable total-loss rules matter. The insurer makes its claim determination using that information. We document repair-related findings; photos alone cannot establish the complete damage or promise that a truck will—or will not—be repairable.

Why does my RAM pull to one side after a collision?

An impact can affect a tire, wheel, steering or suspension component, or the structure that locates them. An alignment adjustment alone may not address the cause. Tell us when the pulling started and about any vibration, off-center steering wheel or new noise. We inspect the affected components before deciding what repair, alignment or system checks are needed.

Does my RAM factory warranty cover accident damage?

RAM’s limited vehicle warranty excludes accident damage. Collision repairs are generally handled through applicable insurance coverage or self-pay. That is separate from the warranty on completed repair work. Ask us to review Universal’s written collision paint and workmanship warranty, and check your RAM’s warranty booklet for any separate manufacturer-coverage question. RAM warranty information.

Will paying out of pocket keep the accident off CARFAX?

We cannot promise that. CARFAX receives information from many sources, including agencies and service-related records, so payment method alone cannot determine what appears. Not every accident is reported, either. Keep the repair estimate, final invoice and available repair documentation for your records. How CARFAX receives accident information.

What should I send for a RAM repair estimate?

Send the model, year, damaged area, whether it can be driven and a phone number where we can reach you. Photos from a few angles and the VIN help identify equipment and parts. Mention any lift, aftermarket bumper, towing equipment or commercial upfit. If you have a claim, have the claim number and insurer contact ready. Use the repair inquiry form or call Spring Mountain at 702-754-6774.
