Tesla vehicles are quiet, so a new squeak, click, groan or knock can be hard to ignore. It is tempting to assume a familiar sound means a failed control arm. Sometimes it does. Other times, the source may be a bushing, strut, tie rod, steering component, wheel, tire, loose hardware or alignment-related condition.

That difference matters. Replacing a part that has not been confirmed does not solve the underlying problem. An alignment alone also cannot correct a worn or damaged suspension or steering component.

We start with what the Tesla is doing, when the symptom occurs and whether it began after a pothole, curb strike, tire replacement, prior repair or collision. Then we inspect the areas connected to the complaint and use alignment measurements when appropriate.

That approach is especially useful in Las Vegas, where heat, rough pavement, construction transitions and road impacts can create overlapping tire, wheel, steering and suspension symptoms. The symptom gives us a starting point; the vehicle inspection determines the repair.

Tesla Control Arms, Bushings, Struts and Steering Components

The suspension and steering system keeps the tires positioned correctly as the vehicle accelerates, turns and travels over uneven pavement. Depending on the model, year, configuration and confirmed findings, a repair plan may involve control arms and bushings, struts, tie rods, related steering components, mounting hardware, wheels, tires or alignment.

A Tesla suspension evaluation may include:

• Confirming when and where the noise, vibration or steering change occurs
• Inspecting control arms, bushings, struts, tie rods and related hardware in the affected area
• Checking the wheels, tires and tread-wear pattern for related clues or impact damage
• Looking for looseness, visible damage or a condition that could change suspension geometry
• Using wheel-alignment measurements when they are appropriate to the complaint and inspection findings

Pothole, Curb and Accident Damage: Look Beyond the Tire

A pothole hit or curb strike can affect more than a tire. Depending on the impact, the wheel, tire sidewall, suspension, steering geometry or alignment may also be involved. The Tesla may still feel drivable while a bent wheel, damaged tire or stressed component later shows up as vibration, pulling, tire wear or noise.

When a concern begins after an impact, we evaluate it as a connected system. That may include the wheel and tire, relevant suspension and steering areas, visible impact damage and alignment measurement when the findings support it.

If the concern began after a collision, our mechanical and collision teams can coordinate the evaluation, documentation and repair plan. Scanning or calibration is included only when the specific damage and completed repair require it.

Tesla Wheel Alignment: Important, but Not Always the First Repair

Wheel alignment sets the steering and suspension angles within the applicable specifications. It can help address an off-center steering wheel, pulling and tire-wear concerns when no unresolved worn or damaged component is changing those angles.

If inspection shows a worn control arm, damaged tie rod, wheel or another affected part, we address that condition first. Alignment is then evaluated as part of the completed repair plan. This helps avoid aligning a vehicle around a problem that is still present.
