Choosing a Tesla Body Shop in Las Vegas? What to Ask Before Drop-Off

You’ve got a damaged Tesla, an insurance estimate and a list of places that say they can fix it. Now you have to decide where to leave the car.

Start with a shop that can explain how it will inspect your Tesla, decide what needs repair or replacement, and deal with changes once the damaged area is opened up. You should also know who will speak with the insurer and who will keep you updated.

Location and price matter. So does knowing what happens after you hand over the keys.

At Universal Motorcars, our Spring Mountain and Post Road teams provide Tesla auto body and collision repair in Las Vegas. Here are the questions we’d want an owner to ask, including what two of our own repair files can show you.

“What does this estimate actually include?”

Two estimates can have very different totals because they describe different amounts of work. One may cover the visible bumper damage. Another may already include damaged attachments, paintwork and procedures identified during a closer inspection.

Before comparing the totals, ask what each shop has seen and what it still needs to check.

Our free preliminary visual collision estimate gives you a starting point. It doesn’t let us see through the bumper or behind a damaged panel. If further inspection or disassembly is needed, we explain that next step and the authorization involved.

This matters when you’re paying out of pocket, too. A cash-pay estimate doesn’t make hidden damage disappear. Ask what the price is based on and how additional findings would be discussed before more work is authorized.

“Can you show me what changed on a real Tesla repair?”

A shop should be able to explain its work in words you understand. Actual repair records help.

In our documented 2024 Model Y collision repair, the estimate began at $7,460.17 and the final bill was $15,225.92. Five supplements recorded changes as the work developed. Some increased the estimate; others reduced it.

That case shows why it helps to ask how findings will be documented. A change in the price should come with an explanation you can follow.

Our Post Road Cybertruck repair case shows a different example. A $939.65 virtual estimate developed into a $7,588.31 repair plan through three supplements. The later scope included the tailgate, hitch, impact bars, lighting and other work beyond the outer bumper pieces.

Those amounts describe those particular vehicles. They aren’t a prediction that your estimate will double—or that every bumper hit is a major repair.

The useful question is: “If you find more damage, how will you show me what it is and what needs to happen?”

“Who handles it when insurance questions the work?”

You shouldn’t have to become an expert on Tesla brackets, panel replacement or repair procedures just to get a clear answer about your claim.

For authorized repairs at Universal Motorcars, our team documents the findings and communicates directly with the insurer. We submit additional repair requests with the supporting photographs, parts information and relevant procedures, as appropriate.

If an item is disputed, we follow up on the reason. Is the insurer asking for another photograph? Is there a disagreement about whether a part can be repaired? Has a necessary operation been left out? Those are specific issues we can work through.

Our job is to explain and support the repair the vehicle needs. An insurer’s first estimate doesn’t settle every repair decision, and submitting a supplement doesn’t guarantee payment. We explain what is approved, what remains under review and any potential cost to you before you authorize that work.

“How do you decide what can be repaired on my model?”

“We work on Teslas” is a useful starting point. Ask about your model, year and damaged area next.

A Model 3 door, a Model Y structural component and a Cybertruck rear assembly don’t come with one interchangeable repair method. Even within a model, the affected material and part matter.

For example, Tesla’s 2025-and-newer Model Y body-repair guidance identifies different steel and aluminum materials and the operations permitted for them. Cosmetic panel repair and structural repair have different restrictions.

Ask the shop how it checks the applicable Tesla service and collision-repair information. A helpful answer connects the procedure to the damaged part on your car.

Universal Motorcars is an independent Tesla repair business. Our work includes Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck vehicles. We confirm the scope and any specialized requirements after reviewing the vehicle and damage.

“What if it also pulls, makes a noise or shows a warning?”

Tell the shop when you first noticed the change. A new pull after a wheel-area impact, a warning that appeared after the crash, or a door that suddenly takes an extra push to close belongs in the conversation from the beginning.

At Universal, body repairs and related mechanical concerns can be considered together. We coordinate the steering, suspension, alignment and diagnostic work identified in the repair plan, along with the vehicle-specific setup or calibration the work requires.

We also investigate whether the concern is connected to the accident. Timing is useful information, but it doesn’t establish the cause by itself.

If the car is pulling, our guide to alignment after a collision explains why an adjustment may be only part of the answer.

“What could change the pickup date?”

A useful timeline includes the things the repair depends on: the inspection, parts, insurance review, bodywork, paint and the checks needed before delivery.

A part can arrive damaged. An additional finding can require another part or an insurer review. A fit issue can need attention before the vehicle moves on to the next stage. That doesn’t happen on every job, but a sensible starting schedule leaves room for what isn’t known yet.

Ask who will update you and what the vehicle is waiting for. “We’re waiting for the replacement bracket to arrive” tells you more than “We’re still working on it.”

We explain the starting schedule after evaluating your Tesla and update you as parts, findings and approvals affect the work.

“What will you review with me before I take it home?”

Ask to go over the completed work, the final bill and the warranty terms. You should understand which areas were repaired, which parts were replaced and which relevant checks were performed.

For the bodywork, that conversation can include the paint finish, panel fit and the operation of repaired doors or closures. For related vehicle systems, ask what the diagnostic results or required checks established.

At Universal Motorcars, our collision paint and workmanship carry a limited lifetime warranty under the written terms while the original owner keeps the vehicle. Ask us to explain the coverage and exclusions that apply to your repair.

Bring the estimate. Bring the questions.

You don’t need to understand every line of an insurance estimate before calling us. Have your Tesla’s model and year, the accident details, its current location and any claim information available. Bring the estimate to the inspection so we can talk through it with the vehicle in front of us.

If it can’t be driven, call before arranging the move. We can coordinate towing or authorized impound pickup and explain the arrangements before transportation or additional work.
